The river Lot (Olt in the Occitan language), originating
from the Mountains of the Lozère, opens out in its
full charm in the North of the Aveyron, a land of mountains
and gorges where distant views alternate with closed valleys.
This is still the authentic French countryside with its
traditions and its ancient history.

If you are in search of wild life you will be delighted.
Not only deer, wild boar and badgers may cross your path,
with some luck you will encounter an eagle or even a genette
cat. There is certainly no lack of footpaths, but bike rides
and canoe trips are nice alternative ways to enjoy this
impressive environment.

For those interested in history this land has a lot to
offer as well: megalithic monuments, gallo-roman settlements,
roman churches and medieval strongholds. It is in this region
that you will find the abbey of Conques, for many ages an
important stop on the pilgrim path to Santiago de Compostella.
